Music Curriculum

Music Education has a high profile at Tootgarook Primary School. All classes have a one hour music lesson each week which encompasses the development of basic musical concepts such as beat, rhythm and style.

Further to this we offer a comprehensive Instrumental program. All grade 2 students learn recorder which offers the basic skills necessary to lead onto other instruments such as saxophone, clarinet, flute, drums, violin, piano and guitar, all of which are offered at Tootgarook. Instrument hire and lessons are highly subsidised by the School Council.

We have a highly regarded school band which performs at weekly assemblies and at community events. All students learning an instrument who have reached a certain standard, regardless of age, are eligible to participate in the band.

Choir practice is held weekly and is open to any interested students from Grades 3-6. The choir performs at many community functions and regularly entertains the residents of local nursing homes.

All students at Tootgarook develop an appreciation of Music and are given many opportunities to become involved in extra curricular music activities.
